CIA Nominee's Confirmation Likely

Hayden is a very able man but his task at the helm of the CIA will not be easy. The failures to prevent the Sept. 11 attacks and the badly mistaken pre-war intelligence about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction have crippled the reputation of the agency and the morale of its employees.Hayden has said he is concerned that numerous investigations and public criticism have taken a toll on the agency.The spectacular interception of the BBC China, a cargo ship that was carrying five containers of nuclear enrichment equipment to Libya, was probably no more than a sting operation designed to revamp the credibility of the agency.According to a U.S. diplomat, had Americans found WMDs in Iraq, there would not have been a BBC China story.
